Explore a world where the past meets the present
The murals have added dimension, depth, character and beauty to our community and we invite you to stroll downtown and watch our history unfold before your eyes. You'll be sure to have fun and learn a little about Vernon's colourful past! The journey takes you through the early 1900s uncovering the exciting lives of Vernon's first pioneers who established what is "the oldest incorporated city outside the lower mainland". Some of the murals also showcase a memorial to pioneers who fought for our freedom. The walk is spread out conveniently through the downtown quarter; is "self-guided" and takes approximately 30 to 45 minutes (depending on how spry you feel), approximately equivalent to a 2 km walk. Pick up a self-guided tour brochure today! They are available at Vernon Info Centres, local downtown merchants or at the Downtown Vernon Association. We will be offering guided walking tours, self guided tours and group tours. Guided walking tour schedule for July & August 2006:
